“自立號”原為鉆井船，由于不能滿足修鉆井的安全要求，經過論證決定改造成一個能夠容納約350人食宿的海上生活、工程支持平臺。改造包括如下內容：
Because of “ZILI” drilling unit cannot comply with safety requirements for drilling, the client decided to transform into support platform for offshore living and engineering. It include:
n 將原鍋爐艙內設備拆除，改造成能容納100居住的生活區
Remove the existing equipment in boiler room, transform into a 100 persons living quarter
n 將將原先的修鉆井功能取消，井架拆除，將1座150人的生活樓安裝在井架拆除后的區域。
Cancel drilling function, and remove drilling derrick, and install a 150 persons living build on the slidway.
n 為了滿足350人生活設施需求，電站系統進行相應的增容改造，并具備電力外輸功能，
in order to meet the demand of 350 people living facilities, power plant system to be innovated corresponding for increasing capacity, and have power transmission function,
n 原生活區配套的空調系統，冷藏系統，廚房餐廳系統都進行了相應的改造。
